PageRank™ is an algorithm developed by Google to rank web pages according to its popularity. It is based on this algorithm that Google determines the importance of a website. Google sorts the search results according to its PageRank. The higher your PageRank, the higher is your position in Google. And a higher PageRank means your site is more visible to people and it increases your potential earnings.

Google Explains PageRank

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.” Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages’ relative importance.

Google updates the PageRank system only once in a while. Google used to update the PageRank of all indexed web sites roughly every three months. Google don’t give a PageRank to a new web site unless it have to.

You have to work hard to get a PageRank of more than just “1″ for your new blog. The best way is to start the blog right after a PageRank update so that you get some three months to start, promote and market your blog. If you did you job very well then you will get a good ranking in the next PageRank update.

As you all know “Content is the King” so the first step is of course to add unique useful content to your blog. Start by adding say some twenty five articles before you start promoting. So that it doesn’t looks like a new blog. Then blog daily by adding at least one post a day. Yes, daily. You must blog at least one article per day to get a higher rank.

Make sure that your first 25 posts are informative articles which are descriptive with at least 500 words each. They must be useful and must be unique and of course search engine friendly. For example if you are blogging about “Make Money Online” then write some informative articles about Affiliate Marketing, and your own reviews of various money making programs like Google AdSense, Commission Junction, Text Link Ads, ClickBank e.t.c. It’s because those articles alone will keep visitors coming back.

Once you setup your blog, claim it in Technorati. It’s because Technorati alone can drive quality good traffic to your blog. It keeps track of how fast your blog is growing.

The next step to promoting your blog is link building. It is the most time consuming part but without that you are not going to get a good PageRank.

You can get instant link backs by commenting other blogs in your niche. It gains you a lot of visitors but make sure that you are in the first 10 or even 20 to comment a post. It’s because visitors usually read only the first 10 to 20 comments.

Also make sure you join ezines, blog networks and social networks like Delicious, Digg, EzineArticles, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Orkut, Reddit, and StumbleUpon.

Join these blog networks and social networking sites and adding your blog URL in your profile is important as people who visit your profile will visit your blog too if they are interested enough. Also register in some of the popular forums like DigitalPoint, Webmaster World and add your URL in the signature field of your profile so that it acts as a back link as well as a source of traffic.

So, if you go ahead and work hard to apply these tips and tricks then your blog will receive a PageRank in the next update.
